Central Region finalist, India Parsons of Westview High School in Avondale, is the first place runner-up in the 2012 Arizona Poetry Out Loud State Competition. Arizona's 2012 POL Champion is Joshua Furtado of Tucson Magnet High School in Tucson. Joshua will travel to Washington DC May 13-15, 2012 to compete in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals.

Young Writers Program and Arizona Commission on the Arts hosted the 2012 Poetry Out Loud Central Region Finals on March 10, 2012 at the Memorial Union on Arizona State University's Tempe Campus. .
The three winners of the Central Region Semifinals competition were John DiMino from Brophy College Preparatory; India Parsons from Westview High School; and Travis Marino from Freedom Christian Academy. John, India, and Travis competed at the state finals on March 29 against three students from the Northern Region and three students from the Southern Region. Congratulations to India Parsons who garnered the first place runner-up spot in the state competition. Joshua Furtado of Tucson Magnet High School in Tucson won the competition and is Arizona's 2012 POL Champion. Joshua will travel to Washington DC May 13-15, 2012 to compete in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals.
